Dita Von Teese
Scarlett Johansson
Scarlett Johansson
This silver screen beauty sets both women’s and men’s hearts a flutter! With her figure-hugging clothes, beautiful style and timeless approach to fashion, Scarlett is turning into an icon for the hourglass. Whether she is attending a premiere, or hitting a coffee shop, Ms Johansson is never shy to show off her curves and make the most of her beautiful body.
Dita Von Teese
The ultimate in pin-up glamour, Dita Von Teese shows the world how to do old-school beauty with style, and is the definitive corset queen. This lady has never had a dress-down day, and why should she with a figure as sexy as that? From perfectly-cut suits and dresses to the high glamour of her burlesque outfits, every Hourglass Honey should inject some Von Teese glamour into their lives.
Keep it nice and simple, but invest well and this baby could last you years. Look for single-breasted, A-line coats. This will keep your silhouette sleek and classic. Coats with a structured belt are another fantastic option, as you can draw attention to that tiny waist.
Top Tip: Don’t do your coat all the way up, as this will emphasise your chest. Keep it open from around the chest up, but to keep the chill out go for a contrasting scarf. Never, ever go near double-breasted coats either: they will swamp your beautiful body.
Tailoring is going to be your best friend, and the humble jacket will change your life. Structure is key and it should be nipped in at the waist to define what a gorgeous figure you have. Make sure that your jacket allows for plenty of décolletage to be displayed too.
Look for a single-breasted jacket that doesn’t go any longer than just below your tummy, you really want to show off what you’ve got. One or two buttons are fine, just be sure that they do up underneath your chest.
Top Tip: If a jacket sounds too formal, look out for bolero tops as these will break up your torso, add interest to your shoulders and highlight your sexy waist.
Once again structure is key sweetie, and there are some great casual and formal tops around. Anything that is fitted from the chest down will be fabulous at showing off your curves, as will any type of corset you can find.
Wrap tops are another key shape to look out for. The deep V will balance your chest and the tie adds interest.
If you want to wear knits, keep them fine and simple. Big knits will add bulk and you will lose your sensational curves
Top Tip: If you are worried about your arms, go for fluted or three-quarter-length sleeves.
Honey, your body was made for dresses — and the 1950s is the era for you. You want a fitted top, fitted waist and a big full skirt to show off your curves to perfection. You can pick and choose your neckline: scoop, sweetheart, strapless or halter-neck.
Keep the skirt full of life with pleats, gathers or go truly rock-and-roll and opt for an underskirt.
For the more daring Hourglass Honeys out there, go for a body-hugging dress that will really show the world what you’re made of! Just don’t forget the heels.
Top Tip: Be bold and brave, and choose any colour or pattern you like, you’ve got a fabulous shape so don’t hide it in drab dark colours.
Now high-waisted, wide-leg trousers might sound scary, but you’ll be amazed when you see the results. The waistband will highlight your svelte torso, and the wide leg will balance out your hips and chest whilst creating never ending legs.
Top Tip: Wear heels underneath these trousers. They’ll not only add height to you, but will also lengthen those legs.
A simple straight leg will work much better in denim: this time opt for a lower waistband that curves up at the back. This will give your derrière a little more coverage, but still show off that shape.
Go for a dark wash, with no fading anywhere — your curves speak for themselves!
Top Tip: Don’t cover that bootylicious behind in gems and jewels. They may catch your eye in the shop my little magpie, but they will just light up your behind like Blackpool.
Another new favourite for all you Hourglass Honeys out there should be the fitted flared skirt. This figure-hugging beauty will display those curves deliciously from your tiny waist, curvy hips and slender calves.
It should be fitted around your tummy, with high-waisted the only option. The rest will skim over your thighs resulting in a slightly flared out kick around your knees.
The 1950s full skirt is another fantastic option, with pleats and gathers. This is a great flirty alternative to the sexy pencil skirt.
Top Tip: As with your dresses, go for any variation of colour with your full skirt, but try to keep the fitted skirt in more muted, darker tones.
Good underwear is going to make or break your outfit, so invest wisely. You’ll need good support for those fabulous breasts and don’t be afraid of trying corsets under your tops. Those big magic knickers may look terrifying in the shop, but trust me when you see what they do to you: you will never take them off again. Well, almost never…
Shoes will play a vital role too, and honey you were designed for high heels. So bite the bullet and learn to love them. Marilyn would be jealous of that wiggle.
Top Tip: Diamonds are a girl’s best friend, but so is a little fabulous costume jewellery. Statement necklaces will draw the eye to your neck and flatter all of the low necklines, as will stunning earrings and cute broaches. A good excuse to hit the jewellers? I think so.
Adorn your body beautiful with our latest recommended accessories
Combination skin is one of the most awkward skin types, but there are so many clever products available now that can combat both. Look for products with tea tree oil to help your t-zone and prevent outbreaks. Remember to take your make up off at night and always moisturise your face and neck – no matter what your t-zone is like.
Top Tip: Regular treatments such as facemasks and exfoliating will help unclog pores, and allow more of your moisturiser to be absorbed.
Hair Style – Straight
Naturally straight hair can be a blessing and a curse. It can be tempting to just wash and go, but sometimes a girl just wants a bit of curl and bounce. For daytime simplicity stick to straightening balms, but if you want added volume go for a mousse to really hold that curl. Clay or paste will add texture; whilst hairspray will ensure that your style stays puts.
Top Tip: Use a deep cleansing shampoo once a week to get rid of product build up, and finish rinsing your hair with a blast of cold water. This will close the hair shaft and add some shimmering shine.
Hair Type – Coloured
Hair colour now allows us to achieve that perfect shade, whether it is baby blonde or bright blue, but it can play havoc with your hair. To maintain that just coloured feel, look for colour prolonging shampoos and conditioners to get the maximum out of your colour. Colour can also dry your hair out too, so make sure that you keep your hair moisturised.
Top Tip: Colour specific shampoos are great; products for blonde hair will remove brassy undertones, whilst the brunettes can add shine to otherwise lacklustre locks.
